The Aiken SPCA Albrecht Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping animals and serving the community. As a private, nonprofit organization, funding is dependent on the generosity and support of local donors. On April 17, the SPCA hosted a Walk for Animals to raise funds, thank, and celebrate its staff, volunteers, generous donors, and of course the animals in Aiken. Joxasa, a designer leather accessory boutique based in Aiken, donated a custom leather dog collar as the coveted prize for the individual who would raise the most money during the fundraiser.
For animal lovers, pets are like family. What better way to celebrate an animal lover’s hard work to support the SPCA than by offering a stylish accessory for their four-legged friend? John Xavier Saunders, owner of Joxasa, has been crafting fashionable leather accessories since 2002, with products ranging from leather cuffs, wallets, jewelry, handbags, and more. Each Joxasa piece is a unique work of wearable art with many options to fit any personality and taste.
While Joxasa primarily focuses on designer leather cuffs for men and women, John was excited to branch out to create a dog collar for the SPCA event. When asked why he wanted to participate in the event, John said “I love animals, and the SPCA does an amazing job finding perfect homes for rescues and providing affordable veterinary services. I wanted to reward the biggest fundraiser with a piece that both the owner and their pet would enjoy.”
The winner of this year’s event was a man with a medium sized male dog. After getting to know the pair, John knew that something classic and rugged would be the right way to go. The man and his dog were active and loved to venture outdoors for walks and play time. The collar would be used every day and had to stand up to the elements. With his client’s unique needs in mind, John designed the collar using Latigo, a leather commonly used in horse tack construction, sure to stand up to many long and action packed days.
